OLD

There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt.

I never thought I would be old.  My grandmother was old, and I would never be her age.  I thought I would always be able to do anything I wanted to do.  And I do, to a degree, and that degree is getting lower and lower.

I have aches and pains I didn't even know existed, and try as I might, they don't go away.  It is the little things that bug me now that I am old.

I drop everything. Everything.  I forget. Everything.  My husband and I now finish one another's sentences.  What's up with that?  When I vacuum the living room, I have to sit down about half way through.  I have to hold on to something to get in and out of the bathtub.  I lose my balance extremely easy and have to be very careful when I get up, or turn around.  I can actually trip on something that isn't even there!

If you are of the 'old' age group, can you add to any of the above.  To my young friends, enjoy life because one day, you will join us in the old age group!

Grow old with me! The best is yet to be. ~Robert Browning

Old age is fifteen years older than I am. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

Some people, no matter how old they get, never lose their beauty — they merely move it from their faces into their hearts. ~Martin Buxbaum

..................and last but not least:
It's important to have a twinkle in your wrinkle. ~Author Unknown

  1. I'm not sure my list will fit on this comment form!!! I have difficulty getting up out of a chair; moan/groan when attempting steps; bend down to get something and can't get up! In addition, I can't eat what I want to any longer and coffee gives me reflux!!! My teeth hurt! I remember my grandpa telling me when I was about 5 that I better quit chewing bubble gum or my teeth would hurt when I was old!!!!! Seriously, I am thankful to be as well off as I am but it is surprising to not be able to do things I used to do.
    God bless your day.

  2. I'm glad wrinkles don't hurt too. *wink* My list also includes a ringing the ears. I think it's from years of hunting, using power tools, and motorcycling. Oh, and I guess the Rock music didn't help any?! *giggle*
    Luv ~:)

  3. Yes, the blessed sound of the ears, ringing, loocust, steam heat, what ever you might want to call it. With or without the hearing aids, you still hear it. I sit down several times while trying to sweep and dust mop, and at the moment it needs it badly. My shingles are healed, but I've got this aswful hurting, aching, burning in the skin and area on my right side where they had been. Doctor prescribed something, 300mg, I took one before lunch the other day, and when the one daughter brought over supper, and I looked at her I saw double, if I shut one eye, everything was ok. So called the doctor next day and he prescribed a lower dose 100mg. I just hope this doesn't last forever. It sure gets on my nerves fast and then I just feel like I want to cry. Plus we're still working on my Mother's small estate trying to get everything settles. The brother driving pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, charges were less then vehicular homicide. I wasn't able to attend that hearing, but two of our daughters went. This is the brother that has been in trouble so much in the past with prescription drugs, street drugs, drinking and in general never growing up. Now Dad or Mom neither one is here to once more bail him out. This man is 68 years old. But this is a hole other thing, sorry for venting on your blog. I'm just so happy that I had the time with my Mother that I did have.

  4. Please excuse the mistakes and hoping you two are doing great. Yes, my other brother who retired from teaching, and I were talking about out reunion coming up and he said, Patty, remember how all the old people use to come. I said yes, but they're all gone now and he said, I know, we're now the old people. Then we both just laughed, not much else you can do. Him and I both limp around with bad hips and backs.
