PIE, PIE, PIE!

Good Wednesday morning, and happy hump day!  Hope you will have a sunshiny day!

One of my daughters called yesterday evening to check on her Dad and we talked about everything.  She is my 'loving to cook/bake' daughter.  They eat healthy. Their two little girls, 9 and 7, eat healthy too!  I asked what they were having for supper and she said 'tomato pie'.

I have heard several people talk about how much they love tomato pie in the summertime with red ripe tomatoes. Do you make a tomato pie?  If so, would you share your recipe?  Our tomatoes are just about to be here and I want to use them.

Murphy and Jesse and crew arrived home around 7 last night, safe and sound. There had been a really bad wreck on the interstate around Birmingham, and they had to take an alternate route, so it took a little more time than usual.  As soon as they arrived, I heard the back door open, and it was Jesse with his skim board and to tell us what a great time he had on their trip.

Our oldest granddaughter, Aryn, and her Dad begin their trips to colleges and to their camps.  They will go to Bucknell in Pennsylvania first, then down to Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN, on to MTSU in Murfreesboro and from there home.  The next week they leave for a week in Disney World and from there up to Wofford in S.C.  It is a whirlwind for sure.  They have been told that this is just the beginning!  I am tired just hearing about it.

Back to church tonight, thankfully.

  1. Safe travels for Aryn and her dad. Happy to read Murphy and Jesse made it back. I am trying to remember about Tomato Pie--I do like Fried Green Tomatoes. Keeping you in prayer. Blessings

  2. Good Morning, Linda. Very thankful that Murphy and Jesse had a safe trip and best of all that they had FUN! These are exciting days for Aryn. May God bless her decision and give she and her dad safe travel. I have heard mention of tomato pie but have never tasted it. It sounds delicious. I hope someone will step forward and share a recipe with you. Hope you and Jim will have a pleasant day and a good evening in church. Love, Mildred

  7. Oh yes I LOVE tomato pie! It is a true delicacy if you have fresh tomatoes. I thought I had put the recipe on my blog, but I just went and looked and I guess not. I'll have to try to track it down.

  8. Never heard of tomatoe pie but I'll bet it's good! Our tomatoes are ripe and we need some way to use them all up before they start hanging out with the wrong crowd (i.e. go bad). *tee hee*
I hope Aryn finds a good school that will appreciate her talents. And happy to hear Murphy and Jesse are back home.
The kitten is cute. Looks like he's smiling in his sleep.
Hope your hand and Jim are all healed up. Y'all stay safe.
    Luv ~:)

  9. That is one very cute and very fuzzy kitten!! Love it!

Glad Murphy and all got home safely! Safe travels to Aryn and her dad. An exciting time for them, indeed!

Joe introduced me to tomato pie years ago, but I have never tried to make it. It would never be as good as what they always got from the local (very Italian) bakery in Conshohocken, PA. Let me know if you find a good recipe!!

  10. What a pretty little girl. I'm assuming a girl, since she's wearing pink.

Yes their trips sound exhausting, but then they are still young and their bodies can handle it.

I've never made or eaten a tomato pie, have no idea how to make one. Plus I buy most of my pies frozen and then just bake them, except for pudding pies.

Finally starting to feel better from the shingles and then the pneumonia I got. Still tire out quickly, although I was doing that a lot before I had either. I guess when you think about my age, it's no wonder. I'll be 79 this Oct.

Have a great day and let me know if your pie turns out good or bad. LOL

    1. You are exactly right about feeling good or bad and our age. I am 73. Shingles alone will drag you down for a long time, and then the pneumonia on top of that is horrible. Will continue to pray for better days.

  11. In Philadelphia a tomato pie is a pizza with chopped fresh tomatoes on it instead of tomato sauce. Don't know what it is anywhere else, but if anyone has a different recipe I would love to try it. Hope both you and Jim are feeling better. Glad your son and grandson are safely home.

  13. We have a cute restaurant in a nearby town called Tomato Pie Cafe. They serve tomato pie but I've never had it.
Wow, Aryn and her dad are coming to PA! That school is about 2 or 3 hours north of here. I pray she has good visits and the decision is easy :)
    Cute cat pic again!
