5.  "The Writing on the Wall"
Then they brought in the golden vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them. They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.
Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, opposite the lampstand… — Daniel 5:3-5

6.  "A Thorn in One’s Side"
So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:7-9

7.  "A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing"
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. — Matthew 7:15-17

8.  "Eat, Drink and Be Merry"
And I commend joy, for man has nothing better under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun. — Ecclesiastes 8:15

9.  "Bite the Dust"
May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth!
May desert tribes bow down before him,
and his enemies lick the dust!
— Psalm 72:8-9

  1. Good Morning Linda, Thank you for sharing these; this has been interesting. After a LOT of rain, we have a little sun peeking through today. God bless your day.

  2. Again, I knew some of these and not others. The one I did know, you didn't mention. So I'll mention it to you. "By the skin of your teeth" is from the book of Job.

    1. Thanks Kathy. I thought it was interesting to learn about these sayings.

  3. #6 and 7 get me all the time. Thanks Linda, I have enjoyed this. Blessings

  4. I really enjoyed reading this post! Thanks for sharing :)

  5. I use a lot of Biblically based cliche's myself. I think it's a Southern thing.
Hope you're day is happy and painfree!
    Luv ~:)

  6. These are so interesting! I really like that photo too.

  7. BUT no where in The Book does it say, "God won't give you more than you can bear." It drives me up the wall when I hear that!

  8. Lulu might want to look up 1 Corinthians 10:13.

These are so interesting, Linda! I know as I read my Bible and find one of these "sayings" I always underline it, and they are many!! Thanks for sharing these!

    1. Good one Terri....thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed finding and posting these.
