STUFF

I was going to title my blog this morning, 'Bits and Pieces, or 'This or That', or last but not least, 'Odds and Ends', but they all just sound like 'Stuff' to me, so there you have it!

Where we live we have relatives on each side, and directly across the street. We watch out for one another, especially if one family is gone or if anything looks out of order.  Last evening, Jim and I were sitting in the living room when all of a sudden we heard the sirens.  We always go to the door or window to see where it is going, etc.  It passed our house, then stopped and turned around and came back to our cousin's house across the street.  It backed in, they got the stretcher out and headed for their garage.  His wife was standing in the driveway, so we knew it wasn't there for her. Sure enough, he got off of his riding mower and fell. Does that sound familiar at all?

The ambulance always comes first and the fire engine follows.  They arrived and helped the other guys get our cousin on the stretcher and off they went to the hospital. We have banned riding mowers in our immediate neighborhood.  We did hear from the cousin's sister that they ruled out a stroke on the first check, but did not have results from the others, and he was admitted.  He is 65 years old and a retired fireman!

Jesse's mother came to pick him up last night and Jesse didn't want to go.  He had told his daddy earlier in the day that he didn't want to go, but Murphy's hands are tied, as the divorce papers say 'shared custody'.  She sat in the driveway a long time, and we assume she was talking to Jesse.  Murphy went out to her car twice, talking to her, and finally she drove away, with Jesse.  Murphy came over and said she was keeping him until Monday.  Bless the little fellow's heart.  He has to be so confused right now.

Jim and I took yellow squash and zucchini squash to our Pastor's parents, and to another friend.  Murphy has a glorious garden and I believe he is growing one of everything.....corn, broccoli, squash of all kinds, tomatoes, and then the strawberries, watermelons, cantaloupe, mush melons and pumpkins.  We will be canning and freezing until winter!  The sunflowers are taller than I am, but if you know me, that isn't very tall.
We have a quiet weekend ahead.  Hope yours will be just what you want and need.

  1. Praying for your cousin; please keep us updated. My husband had to give up driving a vehicle and using any gas powered mowers etc. due to various health conditions. It is sad for any of us to have to give up things we have always done for ourselves. Murphy's garden looks great. I love fried yellow squash! So difficult for little Jesse. Praying that in time that this difficult situation will become easier. We know that God can do more than we could even hope for. Looks like another hot/humid day. We open the windows for an hour or so each morning to enjoy the birdsong. God bless you both and have a nice weekend. xo

  5. Oh, that's so awful about your cousin. I hope and pray he is OK. All these falls lately!

It is so sad about Jesse. Being a kid of divorced parents I can really understand what he is going through. I hope the situation settles down soon.

  6. Everyone suffers but nothing like the children. I've seen it so many times. I had a friend/couple who divorced when we were having our babies and going out together and our husbands playing ball together. They divorced. She told me one day, I'm glad you and David stuck it out. It is never over. The kids get married, the grand kids come along, holidays, everything and everyone suffers and the cycle continues. Bless his sweet little heart. I hope your cousin is okay and gets well soon.

  7. Whenever I hear about yet another divorce, I always think of the song by Carol King "So Far Away". Doesn't anybody stay together anymore? Life is tough enough as it is without adding to the pain. Please give Jesse an extra hug from all of us. Prayers for him and Murphy. I hope he'll be OK soon. The garden looks grand. We started so early down here that we're already having to replant already. Life's cycle just goes on and on. Thoughts and prayers for you all there. Luv ~:)
