THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

There are lots of parties, presents, shopping, music, cards, etc. flying around these days.  Lest we not forget the real reason of the season.

Today is our day to gather with others who are thankful for the baby born, to worship Him and sing His praises.  Every season is special but this one is extra special!

Our Angel Tree is 95% full and we have only one more week to complete it before the gifts are given to the children.

I totally finished my shopping and even have the paper and ribbon to wrap the gifts.  A lady behind me at a check out line, said 'are you through shopping yet?' I replied, 'if it isn't in this buggy, it wont be bought this year!!!

More Memories................
As I said yesterday, it was a rainy day and a day to be lazy.....that is exactly what we did.  We had a surprise visitor in the afternoon.  Our nephew, his wife and a cousin, who live in Huntsville, Alabama came and spent 2-3 hours with us.  His Mother was Jim's only sibling and she has been gone (where did she go???) (I don't like that term when referring to someone who has died, but we all use it) for many years. We had fun laughing and re-living memories.  His family lived in Miami, Fla and they grew up there. We would go visit about every other year.

Another Christmas memory for me was the silver, rotating, with colored lights below, Christmas tree. Did any of you have one of those? Now they are considered oh so tacky, but back in the 'dark ages', we thought it was cool and the thing to have.  I can close my eyes and still see it turning.

It was a tradition for us too, to pile in the car and ride around looking at the Christmas decorations and lights.  There were 6 of us and it was a tight squeeze, but we didn't care.  The five adults were lots of fun for this one little girl.  We still do that from time to time, but the number has whittled down to 2 - me and Jim!

More to come.............

KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS!

  2. Great memories......we had the silver tree with the color wheel that changed the color of the tree as it rotated. My father and I thought it was really cool, but my mother didn't. It didn't last too long!

  4. Oh yes, we had one of those silver trees with the colored spotlight.... we used it for one year only. Had to go back to a real tree! LOL

We delivered our gifts for our giving tree last night, at church. We had tags for two little boys. They had quite a list, but we got them new shoes and a toy from the list. That's what we could afford. Nice that you had a surprise visit from loved ones!! Tis the season!

  5. I'm glad y'all had such a nice visit. I miss seeing family. All my people have "passed".
We had the very same silver tree with the rotating lights! Remember the original movie "War Of The Worlds"? When I was a kid, I thought the strangely shaped kaleidoscope of lights looked like one of the mechanical creatures. Oh what an imagination I had! *lol*
Hope you're pain free and enjoying the evening.
    Luv ~:)

  6. Love the memories of Christmas - so good to relive those. We had the silver tree for a year or two as well, but we didn't have the color wheel so it wasn't so great.
