3 MORE DAYS IN MY FAVORITE MONTH!

We took a ride yesterday to a mountain near us, where there is an apple orchard.  I plan on making some apple butter for Christmas gifts and needed to find the right apple.  It was breathtakingly beautiful as we rode.....the reds were redder, the yellows were yellower, and it was color after color and to back it all, the sky was sooooooo blue.  It really is my favorite month of the year and we have certainly had those bright colors this year.

I did find my apples, plus I got 1/2 gallon of their apple cider.  I love cider, hot or cold.  It was good, but still not as good as the orchard on the mountain where my daughter lives.  I usually get 3-4 1/2 gallons of theirs and put in my freezer.  They close the day before Christmas and if I didn't freeze some, I would have to wait til this time next year.

We still have not made it to get our flu shot, so going to try again today.

Another recipe I plan to make for the holidays and made in crock pot, which I am having 'a love affair' with this fall.

YIELD: 12 SERVINGS
SLOW COOKER CHEX MIX
Did you know that your favorite homemade Chex Mix recipe can be made in the slow cooker? Give it a try!
3 HOURS on low..........
INGREDIENTS:
9 cups Chex cereal (I used equal parts corn, rice, and wheat Chex)
2 cups pretzels
1 cup Cheerios
1 cup peanuts
1/3 cup (6 Tablespoons) butter, melted and hot
1 Tablespoon seasoned salt
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Add cereal, pretzels, cheerios and peanuts to the bowl of a slow cooker.
In a separate bowl, whisk together butter and seasoned salt until the salt is dissolved.  Stir in the Worcestershire sauce until combined.
Drizzle the sauce evenly over the top of the cereal mixture.  Toss for about 1 minute, or until the mixture is evenly combined.
Cover and slow cook on low for 3 hours,  stirring at the 1 hour, 2 hour and 2.5 hour marks so that the mixture does not burn.  Then spread the mixture out onto a few baking sheets or parchment paper in an even layer until it cools to room temperature.  Serve, or store in a sealed container for up to 3 weeks.

Have a wonderful day!

  3. What an easy recipe!! Thanks for the great idea for gifts! I always try to give to my staff, at work, and there are nine people; then there are my lunch-bunch girlfriends...another five. It can be expensive. I will definitely revisit this one!!

We love apple cider, too, but don't have an orchard here. We rely on Publix and it isn't nearly as good.

Hope you can get those flu shots today! Important!!
