STREET ART!

How do you feel about street art?  Does your town or city have some here and there?  We have an area of town that is in the process of being re-vitalized and it seems most of the buildings in about a 3-4 block area, has some type of art.

When I saw the one above, it amazed me that someone took advantage of a bare canvas and 'spruced' it up!  I like it.

On the same note, we have a bakery that has been here for years and years.
The owner hired an artist to paint a scene on an out-building, belonging to her, near the corner of the street that the bakery is on. There are no words on the picture, advertising anything or anyone.
The city council has come up with 'it is illegal advertising' and should be painted over.  As I mentioned, no words on it, no arrows pointing to bakery around the corner, nothing.  If this isn't one of the silliest things I have ever heard.  If this one has to, by law, be painted over, there is going to be a lot of painting going on in this city to get all of them.  For anyone that knows Chattanooga, you will know the area I mention-----
This is an older part of the city and definitely needed some cleaning up and out. So many of the buildings have now been cleaned up and it is fun to drive down that street. It is next to the Chattanooga Choo Choo, which is a major tourist attraction.

STREET ART ----- YES OR NO?

  1. Hi Linda! I am all for street art if it enhances the area around it. I don't see a problem at all with the artwork that is on the bakery! We have a local business owner who is always in trouble because of the art work that he creates on the side of his building. He usually paints people in the news that have passed away. The one that started all of his problems was the image of Princess Diana. I'm going to send you a picture of his building if I can find it. Have a great day, Linda!

  6. Actually, that's private property. If I was the owners, I'd fight 'em in court. What's wrong with Chattanooga's City Council? I like the art. As long as it's not nasty (no nudity or vulgarity) I say Go For It. I wish them well. ~:)
