In yesterday's post, I mentioned meeting an old friend and signing a paper for her son.  Her son is 50 and the day he was born, I drove to Warner Robbins, Georgia (hubby in Air Force there) to see him.

His Mom and I were friends before she was married, so we go back even further.  I was the Maid of Honor in her wedding and she was my Maid of Honor when Jim and I got married.  So you can see the strong connection.  We have not seen nor talked to one another in 10 years, but the minute we both got out of the car, it was like it was yesterday.  We couldn't stop grinning and hugging!

We had so much in common, it is incredible.  The day my Jennifer was born, her sister was at the same hospital having a little girl too.  She was assistant to the county manager for over 30 years and worked at the court house.  So did my Mother and she said yesterday how much she loved my Mom.

We couldn't talk fast enough to get all the memories out.  When I was 18 years old, I took a trip across the country with her family.  She is from a huge family and they just included me in everything.  Her grandmother lived in California, so we all headed west!  Two cars full!  I was able to see all the national parks, and we even went to Disneyland.  Disney World had not been built nor even thought of that I know.

This really is her family, all brothers and sisters and husbands and wives!  Her Father came to America from Cuba way back when, and married her Mother here.  They did believe in reproducing....lol

Her first husband died and she is now married to a gentleman...real gentleman. He is an attorney, retired, and now they travel the world.  I am so happy for her and it was wonderful to see her again.  We just pick up where we left off so many years ago.  We plan on lunch very soon to keep remembering!!!

Do you have a friend like that?

  1. Absoultey wonderful! No, sadly I do not, no childhood friends. My husband though, does. He has a buddy back in Fl, we haven't seen each other in over 8 yrs, however, if we were to show up on his doorstep and vice versea it would be like we never left. --you are so lucky to have a friend like that. Blessings

  2. Linda, I am certainly blessed with friends like that and have blogged about them. My BFFs Elaine and Karen, to name two. It is so great to stay in touch, even though we live miles apart. FB and Blogger!! Hooray!

Your friend looks like a wonderful person, as does her new husband! How great that you have reconnected!! The smiles say it all!

  3. Oh, such a sweet story. Warner Robins, GA, right around my corner. Had two nephews born there. Small world, huh?
I have an old friend from elementary school on through high school that is like that. Sadly we never see each other or talk but when we do it's as if we were never apart.

  4. The friendship you share with her sounds beautiful and lifelong ! I have one friend in particular that is like this. We have been best friends since the 7th grade and we might not see or talk to each other as often as I wish but when we do, it is like no time has passed between us.

  5. What a wonderful day and what a wonderful friendship! I have a friend like that too. It's a blessing!

  6. I'm so glad the 2 of you could get together and renew the friendship. I wrote about recently getting together with a childhood friend of mine. We were the same way. It's like all those years haven't flown by. They seem to hold a special place in our hearts we carry with us the rest of our lives.

  7. How wonderful that you were able to reconnect!

  8. That was so nice to be able to visit. I have a friend, we became friends when I moved to a different school, I was in the 5th. grade. Then she moved away when we were in 7th. grade, but we wrote and kept in touch. We still talk over the phone. She has gone through a divorce, on husband died, now she just lives with the new man friend. He treats her like a queen and loves her children. They never had any, since it was later in life when they met and him and his first wife never were fortunate enough to have any. Only thing is, now that we have a dog again, and also our daughter's cat, my friend said she won't be back to visit. We can meet someplace or talk over the phone. I'm sorry she feels that way, but out dog is part of the family now, and I keep a roller brush to brush company off before they leave. No she's not allergic to animals, just doesn't care for them.
