Thankful Thursday

In Proverbs 6:16-19, God tells us 6 things that He hates, with the last He calls an abomination. This was what our Pastor brought the message from last night. Just as God hates, He loves even more. If you have time, read this passage and then think of the opposite, which would be what He loves. I am thankful for each new thing I learn from Scripture and even though I may have read them before, when reading again with an open heart, I learn so much.

Some or most of you may know I am a retired RN.  I retired from that years ago, but some things bring me right back to what I did or still can do.  I am thankful I am able to remember and thus, help take care of Jim,  His mind is fading, as lots of us old folks are, but he is 10 years older than I am, so I can still remember a little more.

I am thankful that I got to spend some quality time with my daughter yesterday.  She and family live across town and we don't get to see them or spend as much time as I would like.  We ate some really good 'old southern' food, drank coffee and talked and laughed a lot.  One thing that she said and made me happy was, 'Mom, we are raising our girls just like I was raised' and it works! (reared, not raised! we raise tomatoes, but rear our children)

I am thankful that our son, Murphy, lives next door and keeps our yard mowed for us, and yesterday, he plowed an area for a garden.  Jim can ride the riding mower close to the area and watch and 'supervise'.

My quote on Facebook today is something I intend to pursue and am thankful that God will help me do this.   "God, would you help me put others first when I'm tempted to think of myself."

  2. Linda...I am so thankful that you have family that are close...not only in proximity, but in heart. You are so blessed, and I continue to pray for Jim.
Thank you for the tenderness and the love that you show not only to your family but to those who you come in contact with.
I'm glad we met through blogging.
    Hugs to you and yours,
    Jackie

  3. Sorry to hear about your husband and his memory. Sometimes I think Abe is having problems, but if he uses his oxygen like he should he seems better.

Glad you got to spend some time with your daughter. That's always nice. Tonight is spaghetti night here in Brookville, two vegetarians will be here for supper/dinner, so it's something easy, will also have a tossed salad, and some (canned) hot biscuits. Didn't get to grocery and don't plan to, it's been raining all day, so no garlic bread tonight. Daughter is bringing some lemon cheese cake bars. New recipe she said. So it will be an easy supper. And we just might eat on heavy duty paper plates, cut down on dish washing. LOL

  4. There was a time when I wished I had gone into medicine instead of accounting. You help people, I just made them miserable with facts. *lol* I know Jim must be forevermore grateful to have you to care for him. And how wonderful to have a son next door and other family to love you so much. My husband is 8 years older than me. If he goes first, I'm alone. (No children.) Guess I'll muddle through somehow.

I'm going to go look up Proverbs 6:16-19 now. Thanks for sharing that. Hope y'all have a happy evening. God bless. ~:)
