OLD AGE!

I hope my title picture doesn't offend anyone, but it was so funny, I just had to share. It is so true....that we forget I mean, not that we ride naked!

At the tender age of 73, I now know what 'old age' is all about, and all you can do, is laugh and go on.  If we don't laugh, the men in the white coats will come and get us!

We have a lady's prayer group and for some unknown reason, last night we talked about old age and the things that happen to us. All that was before we began our prayer time.  There are ladies of all ages and I would guess the oldest is 83 and the youngest is 39.  Funny how different we see growing old.

Forget - oh yes.  Things you have known all your life, you just can't remember. Names, places, fun times you have spent.  If they are over 10-40 years ago, you can be safe in remembering, but if it happened yesterday.....no way. Names seem to be the worst for me.  I attribute part of that to nursing.  When I was still working at the hospital, we were not allowed to say patient's names out loud, so we used their room numbers. Now if you have a room #, I can get to you!  Jim and I play guessing games, and get a good laugh.  The answers come later that day or even tomorrow!

Shopping - I make a list now whenever I go shopping, for groceries, gifts, etc.  I never ever had to make a list before because I could remember everything without problems. The fun and/or aggravation to this is when you leave the list at home.

Board - We have a white write on board in the kitchen and on the board is all of our doctor, dentist, birthdays, etc.  We know we will be in the kitchen several times during the day, so we can both 'check the board'!

Clumsy - I know everyone isn't, but I fit in that category.  I drop everything that goes in my hand....everything....keys, credit card, something, anything in the grocery cart. When I am in a good mood, I laugh at myself.  When I am in a bad mood, it irritates me to be old!

These are just a few of the fun things of old age.  I don't really mind though, because I am just thankful to still be 'kicking' so I laugh and go on.

  1. Oh Linda! This gave me some good chuckles today! I'm 63 and am just like you....God help me 10 years from now!! Joe's doctor told him that as long as you eventually remember what you "forgot" you are still okay. It just takes our older brains a little longer to search the data base. It's when you don't find it at all that you need to worry. We're still okay!! Happy Monday!

  2. LOL--Liam just came in and saw your title picture---that child--teenager is lol'ing. He finds it funny....well...so do I. I am 47 and have lists for my lists, lol. I always said I was going to grow old gracefully...well...if you mean dying your hair, and refusing to grow old is gracefully, than I am in. LOLOL

Honestly, I understand what your saying. Boy, do I...and don't group me in with the younger generation, I think I was born "older" "maturer". lolol--Blessings

  3. Hi, Linda...thanks so much for stopping by Sweet Nothings...
    I just became your 30th follower. :)
Well, I just had my 77th birthday on New Year's Eve so I surely can relate to GETTING OLD. Oh, my...not only has my body changed so much that I scream every time I get a glimpse of my naked self...
I get in the car to go somewhere and, all at once, at a light, I think..
"WAIT....WHERE WAS I GOING..??" Where I used to clean my whole house, mow both front and back lawns, go to the groc store and fix a nice dinner, ALL in ONE day, it now takes me nearly the whole day to just go to the groc store and make a meal....
Pitiful.....plumb pitiful....oh, but I do love my olden life...things don't HAVE to be done on a time schedule...I can stay in my pjs all day long if I want to...my long life has been blessed so generously that I spend a lot of day thanking our Heavenly Father...:)
    hugs, bj

Gosh, is this what I have to look forward too in about 10 years or so?! *giggle* Oh, well. Maybe it won't be so bad. I only hope that I will be blessed with being able to forget the 8 years of turd boy in the WH. That will be worth growing old for!

    Luv ~:)

  7. I make a new to-do list every morning, because I sometimes forgot where I put the one I made the day before. But I am most grateful for the privilege of growing older. My main goal is to grow as I age.
