VINTAGE OR ANTIQUE?

An antique is commonly known as to be over 100 years old, although many believe an antique is a piece from another era in time.

When it comes to a vintage piece, many follow the rule of thumb that something over 50 years old is considered vintage. It also relates to specific time periods- vintage 50’s, vintage 60’s. Most items found in the attic would fall under the vintage category rather than the antique.

From those descriptions, I am not an antique, but vintage - definitely me! Things that used to be so important, are not any longer.  I have a new look at life.

1)  My house does not have to be spotless.  It does not have to have that deep cleaning every week.
2)  I heard someone say once, no matter what clothes you wear, be it overalls or satin, make sure it is clean...that is most important!
3)  My taste in foods has changed drastically.  What used to be the foods to lose or keep my weight in line, no longer bothers me.  I eat what I want, when I want it.  At midnight is just fine.
4)  I think I smile more because I don't have to worry about getting a fellow, or offending someone.  I like living and hope to enjoy every single minute.
5)  I used to think you had to go somewhere every single weekend. Now, any day of the week is just any day and I can do as I please.  I prefer staying home these days.  I have visited all of the lower 48 states and been on a cruise out of the country.
6)  Long hair is in style and I don't care that mine is almost as short as any man and I have it cut at a barber shop.  It is easier to take care of, and you can see my dimples better!  LOL
7)  I do think my OCD tendencies are stronger now that I am older.  I guess if something is out of order and I can't find it, I don't give up looking for it, like I would have when I was younger. Example:  Jim has had a problem with his left hand for weeks now.  We have been to the doctor about it, etc.  He has been wearing a brace.  This morning he couldn't find it.  OK, Mrs. OCD - find it.  I searched every room and no brace to be found.  Did I quit looking - no way.  I took pillows out of the couches and nothing. I finally stripped his recliner and there, stuck almost out of sight, was the brace! I knew I could move on then.
8) I do make more notes at 72 than I ever did at 27!
9)  One thing that hasn't changed in all these years.....every article of clothing I buy is too long.  The sleeves are too long or the hem is too long.
10) My circle of friends has changed.  I have 5 ' call me any time and I will help' friends.  I have lots of acquaintances, from school, from church, neighbors, but only 5 I can call 24-7.  I am thankful for those.

  4. Great post. We are a lot alike. When I worked for the auctioneer, I had to learn the difference before the advertising went out. I couldn't say "antique" unless it was a documented item. And now.... I'm vintage too. :)
You have a great day. God bless.

  5. Are you sure we're not related? *lol* We do sound very similar. Only difference is I'm going the other way with my hair, letting it grow long. I'm giving it one last "fling" before it gets chopped, I think. I've been uploading old photos to My Shutterfly account (redbirdacres.shutterfly.com) and I can't get over how much I've changed in 5 years. It doesn't bother me, just an observation.
I too have a smaller but better circle of friends now. I can call them 24/7 if assistance is needed and they can call me. I treasure them wholeheartedly.
Hope y'all are feeling good today. ~:)

  6. Well, I'm definitely vintage, but you didn't mention that cars are CLASSIC at 25 years!! So we are really classic vintage!

Great post, and the only one we differ much on is clothes being too long...mine are always too short! I'm also not quite as OCD as you describe yourself....I used to be more like that, but have learned to let things go now! Have a good Friday!
