Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it. ~Russel Baker

Happy Saturday to one and all.  It is to give us sunshine and flowers and bees and flies and mosquitoes. Ahhhh, summer!

Riverbend ends tonight.  I didn't go and didn't want to go, but of course all my children did want to and did go.
We old folks (Jim and me) rode through the Chickamauga Battlefield.  It is lush and so peaceful and quiet.  We both enjoy going there, in all seasons.

Death Knell of the Confederacy

In 1863, Union and Confederate forces fought for control of Chattanooga, known as the "Gateway to the Deep South." The Confederates were victorious at nearby Chickamauga in September. However, renewed fighting in Chattanooga that November provided Union troops victory and control of the city. After the fighting, a Confederate soldier ominously wrote, "This...is the death-knell of the Confederacy."
For some strange reason, I have  been awake since 2:30 am.  Nothing wrong, just awake.  I didn't get up until 6, but even so, I am sure a nap will be in order today!

  1. I would love to visit Chickamauga. We've visted several Civil War sites but not that one.
I hate nights that you can't sleep. Hope tonight is better!

  2. Chickamauga is def. a very quiet place..like Liam once said when he was younger, "Mama, you could almost hear the cannons!" Just a solemn place.

Sorry that you woke up so early..I am still not use to it getting light by 5-5:30..Blessings

    1. Linda, one of our daughters and husband lived on the border of the park at one time, and I babysat their first child. I would drive thru the park every day, and each season is beautiful. My son in law said, think about it....you are in a huge cematary! 5200 acres

  3. Linda, next time Joe and I come through Chattanooga, that park will definitely be on our list of must sees. I slept in until nearly 8:30 today. Sure feels good when I can go to bed and not set the alarm for 5:00 a.m. Blessedly, Joe isn't coughing as much and that allows me to sleep longer, too.

Have a good weekend, dear friend! Love & hugs.

  4. I would have loved to see Chattanooga and the surrounding sites instead of everything flying by from the highway. I can only imagine the feelings one would get in the park.
I've had nights like that. A nap is definitely called for. You have a good day.

  5. Chickamauga is definitely on the "bucket list". I enjoy studying events that took place in the War Of Northern Aggression. Hubby and I both lost a lot of ancestors thanks to Abe Lincoln. He's not one of our favorite Presidents. Hope y'all are had a good day. ~:)
